We're excited to have submitted a planning application to Islington Council to extend a Victorian terraced townhouse in Tufnell Park. Our proposals include thermal upgrades and enlarging the kitchen for a family with young kids, converting an asphalt flat roof into hardwood-decked terrace, and adding a big en-suite playroom in the loft.
Victorian houses tend to be long and narrow, uninsulated, and draughty. The kitchen in this house is a poky space, barely seating six, at the back of the house with less than ideal daylighting. We're proposing a glazed roof to flood the expanded kitchen with plenty of daylight. The new kitchen will be big enough for both an island and an eight-seater dining table (with room for an extending 12-seater), plus a couple of cosy reading nooks for rainy days.
We're expecting a decision from Islington Council in February 2021.
