Goldfinch Café Nears Completion

Writer: Mark FinneyMark Finney

Our Passive House café project in Westbury-on-Trym - Goldfinch Create & Play - is in its final stages of construction. We recently visited site to inspect completion of the photovoltaic panel array.

Because it is so well insulated, and leaks over 15 times less air (and therefore heat) than the average building (no building is ever truly airtight, but this one is close), the building only needs a roof-mounted air-source heat pump, and photovoltaic panels to run its ventilation and heating systems.

This is one of the key benefits of building to the Passive House standard: the building loses so little heat in colder months that what little heat is required can be provided using only renewable technologies.
