FAMILY HOME
LONDON NW5
Scope of Build: A whole-house renovation of an unloved and tired terraced house, to make it suitable for a family of four. The kitchen, at the back of the house, was previously in effect a long, dark corridor, with no space to sit to eat comfortably. This was addressed by a side return extension which widened the back of the house by 2.5m and allowed for some rooflights. Through re-planning the rest of the ground floor, we were also able to add both a ground floor WC and a utility room. Our clients work from home, so creating two separate spaces to work from home was key. A pre-existing first floor roof terrace allowed a small extension to create one mini office off a stair landing, and the other was crafted out of the existing Victorian garret.
Outcome: A four-bedroom house with a large living space and bright kitchen. Small nooks around the house allow escape from the busy rooms, and absorption into work. There is enough space to entertain and unwind, and possibly most importantly, a place to hide away coats, shoes, and laundry.
